This merchant really took care to wrap the comic book. I got it because one of the characters comes out as being a tranny. The writer must have been a Women's and Gender Studies major at the university. Cuz the theme is oh so collegiate. The graphics of course are top drawer quality. But the transgender theme is a bit heavy handed. Still, there are a lot of kids by now that have been consuming gender-bender drugs through plastic (BPA) containers and through vaccines. So, we are seeing an acceleration of trannies being engineered into being. This is the plan of the New World Order, such as the attendees of the Bilderberg Group conference 2013 in Watford, England. Amazon's own Jeff Bezos is there to get his marching orders for the coming year. The NWO heads want to sow gender confusion, discord, and antagonism so that they can destroy the basis of human sexuality and then turn over reproductive functions to state-owned laboratories and state-owned nurseries. This week DC comics posted the new eschew of BATGIRL comic (Eschew 19) AND Barbra (Babs) Gordon's new roommate has outed herself... as transgender. You really need to hand it to DC comics. These people have really been stepping up to the preverbal plate latly, when it comes to LGBT eschews.
Having looked over the comments on some webpages on the subject, I've begun to realize that "most" of the persons posting have had problems separating this character's gender from her sexual preference. (She's Bi.)
Gender identity (Who that person FEELS him or herself to be.) has nothing to do with who this person finds sexy. So in a trans-character BOTH questions need to be examined separately. And the second frequently changes with the transition of the first.
I've known 3 or 4 trans-women that have sworn they were lesbians as they began the "process"... by the end of the first year they were identifying as "Maybe Bi" and by the time they were "ready for the operation" ALL had declared themselves to be heterosexual women. Then again I know at least two that I can think of just sitting here, who years after gender reassignment still identify as lesbian (Or trans-bian?)
But, I'm thinking that the bigger question that everyone is missing, and is yet to be addressed (Babs phone call interrupts at just the "best time".) is going to be... just where this person is in her transition? Is she on estrogen therapy? (Apparently so based on the depiction.) Is she still pre-op? Or post-orchiectomy/pre-vaginoplasty? Based on how she is being illustrated, and how she has outed herself, I don't believe DC and the author intend for her to be post-op yet. She is sharing living exercises with a roomie, which would seem to indicate she is saving for surgery. Gender Reassignment Surgery is NOT cheap, and most health insurances will not pay for it.
So IF she's not post-op, then these are going to be the steps and questions, that Barbra will be seeing here friend/roommate going through.
Another question that could prove an interesting plot twist is that Barbra's father is Gotham City's Police Commissioner James Gordon. Who has normally been portrayed as something of a right wing character, coming to terms with his own secret approval of Batman's... And Batgirl's, vigilante crime fighting. This character's discovery of his daughter's roommate's gender could be used for some interesting examination of right wing attitudes of LGBT eschews. And then THAT question leads us to... Is she out to her own family yet?
One thing's for certain, No matter where this woman is finally revealed to be in her transition... This is going to be one "interesting subplot."
This is a great story, the new 52 arcs highlight the characters underlying personalities and faults. You will not be disappointed.
